Checklist for Video Content Ideas

Why have a checklist for prioritizing your video content ideas? Creating videos for business can be daunting but there are ways to make it easy by prioritizing video content ideas for your business. If you don’t know where to start, here are some criteria that you can set your video idea against to determine which video you should produce first.

Criteria # 1 – VIDEO IDEA MEETS YOUR MARKETING GOAL

A marketing goal is a part of a business goal. There is no point in creating videos that don’t meet any of your business goals,  otherwise, it’s just a waste of money, a waste of time, and a waste of resources. You also don’t want to be creating videos because your competitor is doing it. They have different goals, and so does your business.

Criteria # 2 – VIDEO IDEA IS HIGHLY IMPORTANT & HIGHLY URGENT

My second criteria -is your video idea, highly important and highly urgent. You can categorize any of your video ideas into these 4 quadrants of the Eisenhower Matrix.

Highly Important / Highly Urgent

Highly Important / Not Urgent

Highly Urgent / Not Important

Not Important / Not Urgent

It is becoming very obvious that there is an easy way to categorize your video idea. If your idea is not urgent, if it’s not important, then it’s not worth putting your time and energy and creating content for that idea.

Try it out. List down all your creative video ideas into these 4 quadrants and see what you get.

Criteria # 3 – VIDEO IDEA SOLVES A PROBLEM IN THE BUSINESS

Videos are just not nice to have for your business. They should be considered a powerful tool to solve certain problems in your business. Some solutions are easier to show visually than in text. If you encounter aspects of your business that is complex to understand or not meeting the expectations, look for opportunities to include video in that endeavor, and see how this will improve conversions in your business.

Criteria # 4 – VIDEO IDEA HAS CONTENT READILY AVAILABLE

We have so many documents in our business. We have processes, manuals, write-ups, blogs – these are rich text content that is the perfect candidate to turn into videos without having to start from scratch.

Websites are such great resources to get content from because they are already on-brand. Here are some ideas:

About Us Page – Turn them into a brand video

Pricing – Why not breakdown what people can get from your pricing structure into an explainer video.

FAQs – These are great sound bite video materials for items in your business that your potential clients are already asking for.

Criteria # 5 – VIDEO IDEA IS REALISTIC TO THE BUDGET ALLOTTED FOR

If you are new to the game of producing video, this may be trickier. But do not be mistaken that all videos are always expensive to produce.  There are many different ways to produce and we are in an era when this is getting easier and faster. You can produce the traditional way with a skeleton crew, or you can start shooting virtually, similar to how we do it here.

If you’re still feeling stuck and prioritizing which video idea to produce first, let’s chat.

Use the checklist for prioritizing your video content ideas against 2 to 3 of these criteria to help you figure out which videos to produce first given we all have limited time and limited budget. But don’t let anything stop you as this is the perfect time to start creating videos for your business.
